While women in pornography are dominating the world in front of the cameras, men are normally found as directors and producers. However, things behind the lens are changing. There are more and more female porn directors being born each year. Normally an actress starts her career with some kind of modeling, later starts shooting movies and then ends up as a director or producer (if it is of her will). Some jump straight behind the lens and some never ever witness the life of a director or producer. In the majority of cases, pornstars direct one or two movies and that’s about it. It was different for Stormy Daniels. She never really planned on working as a director. Back then she gave one movie a go and thought it would be a one time experience. It turned out she loved it so much she ended her Wicked Pictures’ contract career as an actress and pursued career as porn director. She still works with Wicked but instead of being on sets in front of the camera she is now behind it.
People over at Huffington Post recently made an article about a few of the top female porn directors. Huff states that many of the adult industry’s most influential women are nearly invisible to the world outside of it. As guys don’t get much exposure when it comes to XXX movies and scenes, so does girls stay somewhere in the back when it comes to direction and production.

Huffpost gave some shine to Erika Lust, Jessica Drake and Stormy. As well as one of the first female porn directors who made the move from being in front to being behind the camera, Candida Royalle. Article says that women are increasingly moving behind the lens as directors.
Many ladies behind the camera have a feminist approach to shooting explicit movies that empowers both the actresses and the women who watch pornography. Swedish director of XXX movies, Erika Lust of Lust Cinema, is one of them and believes that porn needs to change. Both the acting game and the behind the camera game. She would love to see more girls directing and producing dirty movies. Moreover, Dylan Ryan would love to see more women in creation and distribution so they could show what kind of sex they find hot and interesting.
