After the news was posted that Imgur is going to ban all the mature/NSFW/porn content from the comments section, people went crazy. It went so far that the home page of image-sharing site giant, which shows whatever is voted the highest, was saturated with memes users made protesting the new policy. The most upvoted image was addressed to Imgur CEO’s sister, Sarah Schaaf. Later Sarah responded that she feels sick about it and is not in her nor site’s intention to upset the community. She added, “I’m hoping to clear some things out, if you’ll hear me out.”
Wise people behind the “awesome images on the internet” entertainment website realised that a complete ban of all adult content will cause more harm than good. Well, duh! Don’t just simply take the same path as Facebook or Instagram did.
Over the course of just a few days they released another policy update with a new feature. This time a more user-friendly one. There are people who like porn and such stuff on Imgur and of course, there are people who are against it. Their solution is the on/off switch between the content you see and the content you don’t want to see. But, if you are going too far with what you are posting on the big I and several users flag your content, it will go under further investigation (by a human and not some sort of an algorithmic robot).
Before getting yourself banned from Imgur, go and read the updated version of the policy and more infos about the new feature.
